How to Use & Aftercare
I have practised wax play since 2016, and I made these candles so that anyone can explore it, not only masters. Here is how I use them myself, step by step.
Before you start
- Agree on a stop word and on which parts of the body are welcome. Keep checking in while you play
- Cover the bed or floor with a sheet or towel you do not mind marking with wax
- Tie back long hair and keep the flame away from hair, fabric and anything that burns
- A little massage oil on the skin makes the wax easier to remove afterwards
- Keep a glass of water or a damp towel within reach, and never leave a lit candle unattended
Choosing your temperature
- 50 °C and 55 °C – for a first experience
- 60 °C and 65 °C – for when you already know how your mind and nervous system respond
- 70 °C and 75 °C – for experienced players only
The temperature is written on the bottom of every candle, and each temperature has its own colour. Always start with the lowest candle in your set and move up slowly.
How to drip
- Light the candle and wait until a small pool of melted wax forms around the wicks
- Make the first drop on yourself, on the inside of your forearm
- On your partner, start from about half a metre above the skin and come closer little by little. Make a new test drop for every new area of the body and for every new candle
- Hold the candle at an angle and turn it slowly so the wax melts evenly
- Let each layer cool and set before you add more wax to the same place. Wax poured onto liquid wax keeps its heat and can burn
Do not use on the face, on mucous membranes or on broken, irritated or sunburnt skin. Different parts of the body feel heat very differently.
Removing the wax
- Wait until the wax is fully cool and hard
- Peel it off with your fingers or lift it with something blunt, such as a butter knife or a plastic card
- On areas with hair, go slowly. Oil applied before play helps a lot
- Throw used wax away. Do not melt it down to use on the body again
Aftercare
- Slight redness that fades quickly is normal
- If the skin stays hot, cool it under cool or lukewarm running water for 10 to 20 minutes
- Once the skin has cooled, a light moisturiser helps it settle
- If a blister appears, do not burst it. Keep the area clean, cover it loosely and ask a pharmacist or doctor for advice
Please note: wax play involves fire and hot wax and always carries a risk of burns. You play at your own responsibility.
