Product Safety & Materials

I make every SENSEME candle by hand in Portugal, from one recipe that I developed together with a cosmetic chemist. I want you to know exactly what touches your body, so here is the full material disclosure.

50–75 °C6 TEMPERATURESCOSMETIC COLOURS & SCENTSCOTTON WICKSHANDMADE IN PORTUGAL

Wax blend – used in all candles

  • Paraffin from a medical supplier – recommended by physiotherapists for therapeutic paraffin baths. Odourless, colourless, melting point 44–48 °C
  • Soy wax – 100% plant-based (hydrogenated soybean oil), drop point 43–49 °C. Not classified as hazardous under the EU CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008
  • Coconut wax – 100% natural plant wax and a cosmetic ingredient, with a low melting point. Renewable, biodegradable and widely used in massage candles
  • Palm wax flakes – 100% plant-based, melting point above 50 °C
  • Rice wax – 100% plant-based, a vegan alternative to beeswax that is widely used in cosmetics and personal care. Melting point 77–82 °C, the highest in the blend
  • The proportions change from candle to candle – that is how each one gets its own temperature
  • Recipe developed with a cosmetic chemist and production technologist

Wicks

  • 100% cotton
  • Three wicks per candle for an even, generous flow of wax

Colour and shimmer

  • Cosmetic-grade colourants – the pigments are made for soap and skincare, products that are meant to touch the skin
  • Shimmer is natural mica (CI 77019), a mineral cosmetic ingredient also used in eyeshadow and make-up
  • One colour per temperature, so you never mix them up
  • Colourants and mica come from a European supplier (Gran Velada, Spain)

Scents

Every scent is a cosmetic fragrance, the kind made for soaps, creams and other products used on the body.

  • 50 °C – Violet & Cannabis Cactus
  • 55 °C – Ocean & Forest Air
  • 60 °C – Black & Vetiver
  • 65 °C – Bloody Red & Palo Santo
  • 70 °C – Purple & White Moss
  • 75 °C – Nude & Vanilla Tobacco

Design for safe handling

  • Ribbed body, so the candle does not slip in your hand
  • Temperature written on the bottom of every candle

Transparency note: scents and natural waxes

Every candle is scented and contains plant waxes. Even cosmetic fragrances and natural waxes can cause a reaction on very sensitive or allergy-prone skin. Always do a test drop on a small area first, and wait before you continue.

Please note: wax play involves fire and hot wax and always carries a risk of burns. You play at your own responsibility. Start with the lowest temperature, make a test drop on each new area of the body, and move to higher temperatures only with experience.
